Add Workshop mods to a Project Zomboid server

Updated 24 October 2026 · 3 minute read · Project Zomboid · By Exclsv Support

A Project Zomboid server needs two lines in servertest.ini: Mods= lists mod IDs and WorkshopItems= lists Workshop IDs. One Workshop item can hold several mods, so the two lists differ.

The quick way

Paste a Workshop collection link in HQ. It writes Mods= and WorkshopItems= in servertest.ini, in the format for your build, keeps mod IDs and Workshop IDs apart, and flags mods that only support Build 41.

By hand

  1. Stop the server in HQ.
  2. Open servertest.ini in the file manager.
  3. Put each Workshop ID in WorkshopItems= and each mod ID in Mods=, separated by semicolons. Build 42 writes Mods= differently from Build 41, so check the format for your build.
  4. Start the server. It downloads the Workshop items itself.

Every player needs the same items

Players must subscribe to the same Workshop items as the server, and mods that don’t match stop them joining. Send them the join page HQ gives you: it links to your collection.

If it doesn’t work

Players can’t join after adding mods

Ask them to subscribe to every item, wait for Steam to finish downloading, and update. Mods that don’t match stop them joining.

A mod doesn’t load

Check its mod ID is in Mods= as well as its Workshop ID in WorkshopItems=, and that it supports your build.
