Run a Necesse server: joining, owner, mods and fixes
Updated 2 November 2026 · 3 minute read · Necesse on PC (Steam) · By Exclsv Support
Everything you need to run your Necesse server in HQ, in one page.
Set it up
In Settings, set the World name, a Server password if you want one, and your character’s name under Owner’s character name. Restart the server. When that character joins, it gets owner permissions.
Join
- Choose Multiplayer, then Join server.
- Choose Add server and type the address and port from your server’s Join page.
- Choose the server and join.
Admins and moderators
In the console, type permissions set <name> admin (or moderator). Levels are user, moderator, admin and owner.
Mods
Necesse mods come from the Steam Workshop. Upload each mod’s .jar to the mods folder with Files and restart. Players are offered the same mods when they join.
Backups and going back
HQ takes an hourly backup (Automatic backups) and keeps each for up to 48 hours, plus an off-site backup every 6 hours with 7 daily copies. To go back, open Backups, then Automatic backups, pick a time and choose Go back.
If it doesn’t work
Friends can’t connect
Check the address and port on the Join page, and that everyone has the same Necesse version and mods.
My settings reset
Change them in HQ’s Settings, not in server.cfg: HQ applies them on every start.
Run this on Exclsv: Necesse server hosting, from £6.99 a month
