Abiotic Factor server guide: join, admins, settings and fixes
Updated 2 November 2026 · 3 minute read · Abiotic Factor (PC, PlayStation, Xbox) · By Exclsv Support
Everything you need to run your Abiotic Factor server in HQ, in one page.
Join
- In Abiotic Factor, choose Play, then Join Game.
- Search for your server’s name.
- Enter the password if you set one.
Steam, PlayStation and Xbox players can join the same server. To allow one platform only, change Who can join in Settings.
Admins
HQ makes an admin password when the server is created; find it in Settings, Server. Players who enter it in game get the admin panel, where they can kick and ban.
Mods
Abiotic Factor uses mod.io. Put the mod IDs in Settings, Server, Mod IDs, separated by semicolons, and restart: the server downloads them as it starts. Every player needs the same mods.
Settings
Open Settings, then Game settings. Each setting has a plain label, one line of help and the game’s own default where HQ knows it. Most changes take effect at the next restart.
World rules (difficulty, enemies, hunger, loot and power at night) come from SandboxSettings.ini; HQ writes them while the server is stopped.
Backups and going back
HQ takes an hourly backup (Automatic backups) and keeps each for up to 48 hours, plus an off-site backup every 6 hours with 7 daily copies. To go back, open Backups, then Automatic backups, pick a time and choose Go back. Your world as it is now is kept, so you can undo it.
If it doesn’t work
Players see a warning when they join
Abiotic Factor is made for up to 6 players and warns above that. It still works; the Community plan allows 12.
It crashed after a big patch
Abiotic Factor’s server runs on Windows only, so we run it through Proton. Big game patches can need a fix on our side first: use Undo update to go back to the previous build, and open a ticket so we can check.
Run this on Exclsv: Abiotic Factor server hosting, from £13.99 a month
